My ears have been abused to the point where I'm not always as picky about what I'm hearing, but I didn't consider that the way the album was mixed might have influenced my enjoyment of the album. While that could be a big factor, I still say it's more because the album just wasn't that good.

Folks -- if you want to know more about how CDs have been mastered badly over the years, go immediately to Pete's blog. Everybody bought it and hardly anyone liked it. As much as I enjoy playing devil's advocate, or finding treasures that others have neglected, I have to say this album is, IMO, dreck. I hated it when it out, and I still strongly dislike it today (it's not even interesting enough to hate after all these years).

For those who care about such things, this was also one of the first shots fired in the "loudness war." I'm not talking about the album being "loud" in the punk or heavy metal sense, but rather that it has no dynamic range whatsoever. That's part of what makes it so unrewarding to listen to. Nirvana was loud, but their albums had great dynamics. But there's no dynamics on Monster at all making it sound like a blur of white noise after a few minutes.Pete Bilderbackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04053682243872603532noreply@blogger.com
